Annual Report to Parishioners FY 2017-2018
A message from Father Edlefsen, Pastor
October 26, 2018
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“Though it is true that this mission [evangelization] demands great generosity on our part, it would be wrong to see it as a heroic individual undertaking, for it is first and foremost the Lord’s work, surpassing anything which we can see and understand. Jesus is ‘the first and greatest evangelizer.’ In every activity of evangelization, the primacy always belongs to God, who has called us to cooperate with him and who leads us on by the power of his Spirit” (Pope Francis).
With this outlook in mind, I am happy to send you our parish’s Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018). Ultimately, this report is about our mission. It’s about how we use our time, treasure and talent to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Annual Report summarizes our priorities and efforts in faith formation, outreach and service, and building and sustaining our parish infrastructure. No single issue or line-item stands alone. They all work together, as does the body of Christ of which we are all a part, for the greater good. As you look through these pages, you’ll see a story of hope unfolding. It’s one of a flourishing parish. We’re a Catholic community growing into the life and holiness that is given to us in the Sacraments. This holiness is not a gift to be kept to ourselves but to be given away.
St. Agnes is home to 2064 registered families, 52 of which are newly registered. This is the largest annual increase we have had for over a decade. Through six Sodality of Celebrations feast day events, we hosted over 1,400 parishioners and neighbors from our community. Our Welcome Dinners have served to extend the parish’s open arms to over 125 new parishioners and visitors. The story goes on and on.
Internally, we are financially sound. We show a surplus for the last fiscal year. On the income side, collections increased over 2% from the prior year. Income from bequests, which are unpredictable, saw a decline. On the expense side, overall expenditures were consistent with the prior fiscal year. This past July, I announced a Capital Campaign – “Restoring our Legacy: A Shining City on a Hill” – to meet current and long-term needs of the parish.
After you read this report, please take a few moments to reflect on the level of your offertory giving to St. Agnes. Prayerfully consider increasing your support. Your offertory commitment supports the day-to-day workings of the parish and allows us to best allocate resources toward our priorities. I also ask you to consider using our easy and secure online giving program, Faith Direct, found at saintagnes.org under “Online Giving.”
I am grateful for the sacrifices you make to support our Lord’s work at St. Agnes. “May the favor of the Lord our God be ours. Prosper the work of our hands!” (Psalm 90:17)
Yours in Christ and His Mother,
Fr. Frederick Edlefsen
