Annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration
After the Vigil Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent, parishioners gathered to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. The festivities began with a candlelit procession led by Father Frederick Edlefsen, our Pastor, and a statue of Our Lady carried by four valiant parishioners.
The procession ended in the Parish Hall where Father led a decade of the Rosary bowed before Our Lady. He then kicked off the hours-long celebration, and the Mariachi Band provided jubilant entertainment accompanied by dancing, a variety of traditional Mexican and Salvadorian dishes and a piñata for the children. All of this to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, clothed in the sun, sharing her message of love and compassion and offering the sign of the Miracle of the Roses.
Many thanks to Michaela Herndon and the Sodality of Celebrations, and Daisy Fuñes and the Spanish Apostolate for planning and hosting the festivities. Thanks also to La Union for the delicious food!
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated Tuesday, December 12, as a day of solidarity with immigrants.
