“Experience Lent! Prepare for Easter” Ushers in 2018 Lent
This past weekend, the service and ministry spirit of St. Agnes was on full display in the School Gym. With 64 parish ministries overall, 50 fully participated in the weekend fair, setting up information booths akin to a job fair, but offering much more – an opportunity to deepen our Lenten experience this year, as part of our parish community.
In addition to an opportunity to sign up for regular service projects, "Experience Lent! Prepare for Easter" offered over 40 new opportunities with a Lenten focus, including the following:
- Experience Catholic devotions (such as Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, First Friday Vigils and more),
- Get involved in a Lenten service project to serve the poor,
- Take a class or join one of our many Bible studies for the Lenten season, and
- Visit the Boy Scouts' table to sign up for their Blood Drive and the Girl Scouts' table for their cookie sales.
Resulting in an excess of 350 individual sign-ups for Lenten devotions or longer-term service, the fair was an incredible success – a visible seed for future fruit. If you missed the fair, but would like to inquire about specific Lenten opportunities or broader service and ministry opportunities, please contact Amber Roseboom at the Parish Office at 703-525-1166 ext. 127.
Thank you to the full ministry and service community who worked tirelessly to make this happen. And a special thanks to Paul Chaloux, parishioner, for coordinating and leading the effort.
(Pictured is Claire O'Connell in front of the Spiritual Bouquet – each flower in the bouquet represents a devotion or commitment to serve made by a parishioner during the fair. Thank you, Claire, for helping pass out and hang flowers. And thank you, Lindsay O’Connell, affectionately Claire's mom, for creating the beautiful artwork.)
