Rules for Fast and Abstinence
All Catholics are obliged to fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting is obligatory from age 18 until 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. Abstinence from meat is obligatory from age 14 onwards.
