Two powerful earthquakes struck about 100 miles west of Caracas on Wednesday night, causing widespread destruction across parts of Venezuela. Buildings collapsed, homes and essential infrastructure were damaged, and thousands of people have been left without safe shelter. Even as the full extent of the damage is still emerging, Catholic parishes have opened their doors to shelter displaced families and provide emergency assistance.  Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is working through Caritas Venezuela and the local Catholic Church to deliver emergency shelter, food, safe water, medical care, and other critical relief to those affected.

Bishop Burbidge has asked that parishes provide for emergency humanitarian relief for the devastation wrought by the earthquake in Venezuela. You can respond to this appeal by either:

  • Make a contribution by check made payable to St. Agnes and write in the memo: “Venezuela Earthquake.” You can drop the check in an envelope clearly marked in the collection basket or at the Parish Office.
  • Make a contribution through ParishSOFT by clicking here and select “General One Time Gift” and write on the note section “Venezuela Earthquake.”
  • CRS is also accepting direct donations on their website at https://www.crs.org/donate/venezuela-earthquake.
